President Donald Trump will end the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which temporarily protected immigrants who were brought to the United States illegally when they were children, with a gradual winding down of the law so Congress can have time to pass legislation.
At a White House press briefing on Tuesday morning, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that DACA would be “rescinded.”

Russell Moore, head of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), is among a group of evangelical leaders calling on President Trump not to deport immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally as children and offered a reprieve by former President Obama.
President Trump will announce Tuesday what he intends to do with the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. With a 2012 executive order, Obama offered young illegal immigrants who met certain criteria permission to temporarily live and work in the U.S. Those eligible for the benefits became known as “Dreamers.”

Religious leaders press Trump not to end DACA: report

More than 300 religious leaders will send letters to President Trump on Sunday urging him not to eliminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Politico reported.
The letters, which were organized by the Evangelical Immigration Table, will be sent to the president, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), according to the news outlet.

Christian leaders are imploring President Donald Trump to protect DREAMers, saying that “these young people have shown through their great determination and fortitude that our nation is better off because of their presence.”
Following reports that President Trump may end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) after several states threatened to sue over it, multiple Christian leaders and organizations joined together to send the president and Congressional leaders letters, asking them to support DREAMers by passing permanent legislation and to “ensure that these young immigrants are protected” in the process.

Evangelical Pastors Urge President, Congress to Protect ‘Dreamers’

Earlier this week, World Relief urged President Trump to refrain from rescinding the DACA program, at least until such time as Congress has passed a legislative solution addressing the plight of these individuals. We have further renewed our call upon Congress to expeditiously pass a bill such as the DREAM Act or the BRIDGE Act, both of which have been introduced with bipartisan cosponsors in the current Congress.
