As the Trump administration has promised to help Christians and other religious minorities who faced genocide at the hands of the Islamic State, the U.S. government has resettled only 10 Christian refugees from Iraq and Syria since the beginning of 2018.

Female evangelical activists spoke out against the Trump administration’s policies pertaining to the dramatic slowdown in refugee admissions during an Evangelical Immigration Table conference call Monday, two days before World Refugee Day Wednesday.

Trump’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy denounced, defended

Southern Baptist and other evangelical female leaders expressed their opposition Monday (June 18) to separating children from parents on the border as Congress prepares again to take up the immigration issue.

The call for a change in the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy that has resulted in family separation at the United States’ border with Mexico came as Republican criticism grew even while executive branch defense of the practice hardened.

The Church of the Nazarene, as a global family, affirms our citizenship in God’s kingdom and cannot support the separation of children from their parents at the USA-Mexico border.

Jesus reminds us that the kingdom of heaven belongs to little children and that whatever we have done for the least of these, we have done for Jesus himself. Shaped by the love of Christ, the kingdom of God offers a better way that we can live in the here and now. We are a people of reconciliation and in a desire to do so, the Board of General Superintendents has signed the letter of concern from the Evangelical Immigration Table.

Women in immigrant detention are recounting the last time they saw their children, which was weeks, oftentimes months ago. Accounts describe children sleeping five to a 40-square-foot room in these centers, their siblings of a different gender also states away. Some mothers say they were told their children were being taken for a bath, but were never returned. One woman says an immigration official took her daughter away while she was breastfeeding.

‘It’s Disgraceful’: Franklin Graham Rebukes Immigration Policy on CBN Drawing National Attention

Humanitarian Franklin Graham’s rebuke of an immigration policy that separates families at the border surprised many who watch the immigration debate, and it may indicate a growing unease among evangelicals over the policy.

Graham, the head of Samaritan’s Purse and a strong Trump supporter, made the comment during an interview with CBN News on Tuesday. “It’s disgraceful. It’s terrible to see families ripped apart and I don’t support that one bit,” he said.

Franklin Graham Blames Politicians of the Past for Trump Policy Separating Families at Border

Leading evangelist Franklin Graham has argued that past politicians, rather than President Donald Trump, is to blame for the administration’s “zero-tolerance” immigration enforcement policy that has resulted in more children being separated from their immigrant parents who have been criminally charged at the U.S. Southern border in recent months.

Graham, the president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and the humanitarian aid group Samaritan’s Purse, spoke with The Christian Broadcasting Network this week and discussed a number of hot topics, including North Korea, a California LGBT bill and immigration issues.

Pelosi: Trump administration policy separating parents and children at border ‘barbaric’

Amid reports of migrant children being separated from their parents at the southern U.S. border, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Thursday called the administration’s actions “barbaric,” as Speaker Paul Ryan said the situation called for a legislative fix.

“To the barbaric and unacceptable policy of ripping children from the arms of their parents at the border…barbaric. That’s not American. It’s not faith-based,” said Pelosi, D-Calif., at the National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C.

In an attempt to defend his zero tolerance approach to immigration and the subsequent family separations at the U.S. border, Jeff Session told church leaders that at least “we are not sending children to jail with their parents.”

“We currently spend more than $1 billion a year in taxpayer dollars taking care of unaccompanied illegal alien minors,” he said in a speech in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on Thursday, where he justified the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

“They are provided food, education in their native language, health and dental care, and transported to their destination city—all at taxpayer expense.”
